'Portrait arose in no small part out of my diagnosis with genetic cardiomyopathy at the age of forty-two. How I processed my memories and the world around me, including art and poetry, began to change; I wrote (and read) holding in mind the sense of my own mortality. The poems here reflect this ongoing conversation with myself. I love working within constraints, testing the elasticity of language and expression. Portrait is a search for meaning within structure and the disintegration of structure (and vice versa), as well as for the language of self-honesty.'
